Vietnamese badminton faced a disappointing outcome in the first round of Korea Masters 2024 as the top hope, Nguyễn Thùy Linh, suffered a defeat, leading to an early exit for the team. The unexpected presence of Vietnam's top female player added a twist to the competition, with her ultimately facing off against a lower-ranked opponent from China, Yan Yan Cai, ranked 342 in the world.
Despite high expectations, Nguyễn Thùy Linh lost the match, even in a reverse manner. Signs of instability were evident from the start, and after narrowly securing the first game 22-20, she faced pressure from Min Sun Kim of the host nation, who dominated the second game. The third game witnessed Nguyễn Thùy Linh struggling physically, ultimately losing to Min Sun Kim 12-21.
In the men's singles, Nguyễn Hải Đăng also experienced a setback, losing to Kiran George of India in a closely contested match. Meanwhile, in the doubles events, Vietnamese pairs displayed positive efforts but were unable to progress past the first round.
The early exit of Vietnamese badminton players from Korea Masters 2024 highlights the challenges they faced against tough opponents. Despite the setbacks, the experience gained from competing at this level will serve as a learning opportunity for future tournaments. The Vietnamese players must regroup, learn from their performances, and continue striving for success in upcoming competitions.
