In the third day of the CIPUTRA HANOI Vietnam International Challenge 2024, Phạm Thị Khánh and Phạm Thị Diệu Ly faced a tough challenge against Wang Szu-Min and Wu Meng Chen, the fifth-seeded duo in the tournament. Despite their impressive performance, the local fans were hopeful for a surprise.
Khánh and Diệu Ly confidently entered the match, supported by the home crowd. They showcased effective defense and executed well-placed shots, taking the lead in the first half of set 1. However, Wang Szu-Min and Wu Meng Chen displayed their class in the latter part of the set, neutralizing their opponents' attacks and equalizing the match.
In the second set, Khánh and Diệu Ly couldn't maintain the pressure, falling behind the rhythm set by their opponents and eventually conceding the match in two sets (19-21, 15-21). Despite the early exit in this year's tournament, the duo left a positive impression with their resilient and determined play.
As the third day of the competition concluded, Vietnamese badminton now rests on the shoulders of Vũ Thị Anh Thư, the sole representative remaining. The 2001-born player impressively defeated the seventh-seeded Lin Sin YU to advance to round 3. While Khánh and Diệu Ly are out, fans hope for better preparation and higher achievements in future competitions.
