Vietnamese badminton has welcomed back foreign coach Hariawan Hong to enhance its international standing. With a proven track record, his return signals a new era of development in the sport.

Hariawan Hong, an Indonesian coach, rekindles his collaboration with the national team in Vietnam, aiming to elevate the country's badminton achievements on the global stage. His practical and effective coaching methods have garnered high praise from many players.

Having coached in various countries, Hariawan Hong's most notable accomplishment was leading the Indian team to victory in the Thomas Cup 2022. Despite a brief return to his home country due to family reasons after the SEA Games, he is now back in action. His first task is monitoring Vietnamese players at the Vietnam International Challenge 2024 in Hanoi.

Khoa Trung Kien, the leader of the Vietnam Badminton Federation, emphasized Hariawan Hong's familiarity with the Vietnamese badminton scene. The federation has signed a contract with him until the end of 2024 and is in talks for a long-term agreement.

Currently, Hariawan Hong is collaborating with local coaches in Hanoi to enhance player skills, particularly targeting Olympic qualification. Alongside top female player Nguyen Thuy Linh securing an Olympic spot, Vietnamese badminton is striving for a male representative. Players Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Hai Dang are vigorously pursuing their Olympic dreams.

Looking ahead, Hariawan Hong will outline a strategic plan for the future development of Vietnamese badminton. Kien confirmed that the federation is grooming young talents who will carry the national flag as the older generation transitions from competitive play. The federation values Hariawan Hong's expertise in rejuvenation efforts and plans to closely collaborate with him for the long-term success of this initiative.

With Hariawan Hong's return, Vietnamese badminton is poised for growth and success on the international stage. The strategic partnership and focus on nurturing young talent bode well for the sport's future in Vietnam.
