Vietnam's young badminton team clinched their second consecutive win at the BWF 2024 World Junior Mixed Team Badminton Championship, defeating Portugal 110-59. The competition has intensified as teams push for the Suhandinata Cup, with Vietnam currently placed 3rd overall.
In the match against Portugal on October 2, 2024, Bui Bich Phuong triumphed over Maria Wilkinson 11-3 in the women's singles. Tran Quoc Khanh outplayed Tiago Berenguer 22-10 in the men's singles. The women's doubles pair of Bui Bich Phuong and Tran Thi Anh dominated Mafalda Avelino and Isabella Wilkinson 33-15. In the men's doubles, Nguyen Van Mai and Pham Van Truong defeated Santiago Batalha and Dinis Maia 44-19. The mixed doubles team of Le Minh Son and Nguyen Vu Ngoc Tran secured a 55-23 victory over Dinis Maia and Erica Gloria.
The following day, on October 3, 2024, Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen overcame Mafalda Avelino 66-32 in the women's singles, while Nguyen Van Mai triumphed over Santiago Batalha 77-43 in the men's singles. The duo of Bui Bich Phuong and Tran Thi Anh continued their success by defeating Erica Gloria and Maria Wilkinson 88-49 in the women's doubles. Nguyen Van Mai and Pham Van Truong then claimed a 99-53 victory over Tiago Berenguer and Santiago Batalha in the men's doubles. In the mixed doubles match, Pham Van Truong and Bui Bich Phuong emerged victorious against Alexandre Bernardo and Isabella Wilkinson with a score of 110-59.
The team event will conclude on October 5, 2024, allowing the athletes to rest and engage in cultural exchange activities on October 6 before returning to individual competitions on October 7.
