Vietnamese badminton players have shown exceptional performance in the qualifiers for the 2024 Asia Championship, paving their way towards the Paris 2024 Olympics. Notably, pairs from Vietnam have secured victories and are set to compete in the main rounds of the prestigious tournament.
In the men's doubles category, Nguyễn Đình Hoàng and Trần Đình Mạnh will face off against the duo Lu Ching Yao and Tpeyang Po Han from Chinese Taipei in the upcoming first round on April 10th. The players from Bắc Giang province began their campaign with a win against Leong Iok Chong and Weng Chi Ng of Macau with a scoreline of 21-19, 21-13 before eliminating the Indian duo of Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh in a hard-fought encounter ending 21-16, 17-21, 21-13.
As the main rounds kick off on April 10th, Vietnam's badminton representatives, Nguyễn Thùy Linh and Nguyễn Hải Đăng, will take to the court. Notably, Đăng will face off against Aya Ohori from Japan, currently ranked 13th in the world, in a bid to secure a coveted seed for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Meanwhile, Lê Đức Phát has moved up to the 32nd place to compete in the men's singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, but he will need support from Nguyễn Hải Đăng to overcome Sri Lanka's top-ranked player, Viren Nettasinghe, to bolster their chances of advancing to the prestigious event in France.
