In a thrilling display of skills and determination, Vietnam emerged victorious against the Philippines in an intense mixed team badminton match at the BWF 2024 World Junior Championships.
During the third day of the competition for the Suhandinata Cup at the BWF 2024 World Junior Championships, Coach Ngô Trung Dũng's team secured an early and hard-fought win over the Philippines with a score of 110-93 in their group H encounter.
The Vietnamese team faced tough resistance as Hernandez Andrea Princess and Mary Destiny Untal of the Philippines took the lead by defeating the women's pair Bùi Bích Phương / Trần Thị Ánh 11-7. Jamal Rahmat Pandi and Mary Destiny Untal further extended the Philippines' advantage by beating the mixed pair Phạm Văn Trường / Bùi Bích Phương 22-14.
The tide began to turn in Vietnam's favor as Jamal Rahmat Pandi secured his third consecutive win for the Philippines by overcoming Trần Quốc Khánh 33-22 in the men's singles match. Fuentespina Christel Rei then claimed the fourth consecutive victory for the Philippines by defeating Bùi Bích Phương 44-34 in the women's singles match.
However, the Vietnamese duo of Nguyễn Văn Mai / Phạm Văn Trường turned the tables by securing the first win for Vietnam with a narrow 55-54 victory over Jamal Rahmat Pandi / Zeth Quiambao. The women's pair Bùi Bích Phương / Trần Thị Ánh sought revenge by edging out Hernandez Andrea Princess / Mary Destiny Untal 66-65.
Continuing the winning streak, the mixed pair of Lê Minh Sơn / Nguyễn Vũ Ngọc Trân defeated Jamal Rahmat Pandi / Mary Destiny Untal 77-73. Nguyen Văn Mai maintained the momentum with an 88-82 victory over Zeth Quiambao in the men's singles match.
Nguyễn Thị Thu Huyền played a crucial role by overcoming Althea Dawn Ocampo 99-88 in the women's singles match. In the final matchup, the men's pair of Nguyễn Văn Mai / Phạm Văn Trường shone bright as they defeated Christian Dorega / John Vincent Lanuza to secure a comprehensive 110-93 victory for Vietnam.
