Vietnamese Badminton Players Shine in Bangladesh International Challenge

Vietnamese badminton players Le Duc Phat, Nguyen Hai Dang, and Vu Thi Anh Thu have advanced to the quarterfinals of the international badminton tournament held in Bangladesh. This achievement showcases their skill and determination on the court.
All three Vietnamese representatives showcased their prowess during the third day of competition at the Bangladesh International Challenge, taking place in Dhaka from December 17-21, 2024. Vu Thi Anh Thu, the 4th seed in the women's singles category and ranked 148th in the world, had a favorable draw against American player Ishika Jaiswal. Meanwhile, 2nd seed in men's singles, Nguyen Hai Dang, ranked 64th globally, faced off against the 5th seed, Vishal Vasudevan from India. The top seed in men's singles, Le Duc Phat, ranked 60th worldwide, challenged the 7th seed, Shashwat Dalal from India.
In the round of 16 matches held on December 18, 2024, Le Duc Phat defeated Sai Prasad Teegala from India with a score of 21-13, 21-17. Nguyen Hai Dang also cruised to victory against another Indian player, Surya Kiran Reddy Dundi, with a score of 21-13, 21-12. Vu Thi Anh Thu, the earliest to take the court among the Vietnamese representatives, claimed an easy victory of 21-7, 21-7 against Varangana Jayawardana from Sri Lanka.
Le Duc Phat is a nominee for Male Athlete of the Year at the 2024 Victory Cup after securing a spot to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics and securing one win in the group stage before facing the seeded players in the tournament. Throughout this year, the Military team player has also clinched two international titles at the Uganda International Challenge and Lagos International Classics. His competitors include billiards carom 3-cushion star Tran Quyet Chien, shooter Pham Quang Huy, chess player Le Tuan Minh, gymnast Nguyen Van Khanh Phong, archer Le Quoc Phong, marathon star Hoang Nguyen Thanh, and weightlifter Lai Gia Thanh.
