Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin, the badminton duo from Taiwan, are set to receive a substantial financial reward of over 50 million Đài tệ for clinching the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Their remarkable win against a Chinese pair on Sunday garnered them not only sporting glory but also significant monetary incentives.

Following their historic gold medal triumph, a local official, District Chief Tran Phuc Hai, announced that Lee, a resident of Kinmen, would be awarded an additional 5.5 million Đài tệ in bonuses. This sum includes a 3 million Đài tệ prize for the gold medal, a 100,000 Đài tệ reward for the national team member, and a monthly training allowance of 50,000 Đài tệ over four years, elevating Lee's total prize money to 25.5 million Đài tệ.

On the same day, Mayor Tuong Van An highlighted on Facebook that Kim Mon had rewarded Lee with 5.5 million Đài tệ and pledged to increase the city's bonus for Wang, a native of Taipei, to match Lee's. Initially, Taipei had granted Wang a gold medal bonus of 2 million Đài tệ and a 730,000 Đài tệ allowance.

Subsequently, on Monday, Mayor Tuong engaged in a video call with Wang on Instagram, informing the athlete of an additional special bonus of 3 million Đài tệ (equivalent to 2.3 billion VND) for securing consecutive gold medals. This raised the total prize from Taipei to 5.73 million Đài tệ and the overall reward to 25.73 million Đài tệ. Tuong specified that the extra bonus would be allocated to the "hard-working coaches behind the scenes" of this badminton pair.

Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin's remarkable achievement at the Paris Olympics not only brought them sporting glory but also hefty financial rewards, showcasing the value and recognition accorded to top-performing athletes in Taiwan. The substantial monetary incentives serve as a testament to the dedication, skill, and excellence displayed by these talented badminton players.
