The badminton scene in Vietnam continues to thrive, with players participating in prestigious international events such as the Bangladesh International Challenge and Nepal International Challenge. This year, the Bangladesh International Challenge is set to take place from December 17-21, 2024, in Dhaka, featuring three Vietnamese representatives poised for success.
Among the notable Vietnamese players competing in the Bangladesh International Challenge 2024 are Le Duc Phat, seeded first in the men's singles and ranked 60th in the world, Nguyen Hai Dang, seeded second in the men's singles and ranked 64th globally, and Vu Thi Anh Thu, seeded fourth in the women's singles and ranked 148th worldwide.
Of particular mention is Nguyen Hai Dang, whose image graces the tournament poster. As a seeded player, Nguyen Hai Dang, along with Le Duc Phat, skips the round of 64 in the men's singles but will commence play on December 17 from the round of 32. Similarly, Vu Thi Anh Thu receives a bye for the round of 32 in the women's singles, thus starting her campaign from the round of 16.
The Bangladesh International Challenge serves as a platform that aligns well with the capabilities of Vietnamese badminton players. Over the years, Vietnam has seen success in Bangladesh, with the likes of Nguyen Thi Sen/Vu Thi Trang capturing the women's doubles title and Vu Thi Trang clinching the women's singles crown in 2016. Additionally, Nguyen Thuy Linh dominated the women's singles in 2018 and 2019. Not to forget, during its time as part of the International Series, Bangladesh witnessed the pairing of Le Ha Anh/Le Thu Huyen securing gold medals.
The Bangladesh International Challenge 2024 presents a significant opportunity for Vietnamese badminton players to showcase their talent on the global stage. With a history of success in the tournament, the Vietnamese contingent is poised to make a mark once again and contribute to the country's growing presence in international badminton.
