The badminton world witnessed the outstanding performance of Vietnamese players Nguyễn Hải Đăng and Vũ Thị Anh Thư at the WONDR by BNI Indonesia Masters II 2024. Despite initial plans to compete in New Zealand, the duo showcased their skills at this prestigious event, adding excitement to the badminton world.
Nguyễn Hải Đăng, ranked 69th globally, defied expectations by securing the 5th seed at the Indonesia Masters II 2024. This ranking granted him a pass into the second round, where he faced Saran Jamsri from Thailand, ranked 120th in the world. Vũ Thị Anh Thư, ranked 140th globally, faced an Indonesian opponent, Bilqis Prasista, ranked 121st, in the first round of the women's singles. A victory for Anh Thư would set up a challenging match against the 3rd seed, Malaysia's Letshanaa Karupathevan, a talented 21-year-old with prior success in the International Challenge/Series circuit.
During the qualifiers, Vietnamese representatives Bùi Thành Đạt and Lê Ngọc Vân participated in the men's and women's singles categories, respectively. However, both players fell short of advancing to the main draw. Lê Ngọc Vân suffered a close defeat against Malaysia's Yi Xing Ung, losing 21-12, 18-21, 16-21. On the other hand, Bùi Thành Đạt faced a tough challenge against Thailand's Varot Uraiwong, the 5th seed, and was defeated 8-21, 5-21.
Nguyễn Hải Đăng and Vũ Thị Anh Thư's performance at the WONDR by BNI Indonesia Masters II 2024 highlights the growing presence of Vietnamese badminton talents on the international stage. Despite the challenging competition, these players showcased their skills and determination, promising an exciting future for Vietnamese badminton.
