Chinese top-seeded mixed doubles pair Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong secured their fifth title at the Indonesia Masters on January 28, 2024. In a confident fashion, they defeated Hiroki Midorikawa and Natsu Saito of Japan with a score of 21-15, 21-16 in just 35 minutes. This victory makes Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong the most successful players in the history of the Indonesia Masters.
After the match, Zheng Si Wei humbly acknowledged their success, saying, "I am speechless. I know we have won a lot of matches here, but I didn't realize we are now the most successful pair. We are very happy; this place means a lot to us." The 26-year-old player made his debut at the Indonesia Masters in 2013 with He Jiaxin.
He further added, "We always have good results at Istora. The fans never stop supporting us, and I think they bring us luck. We really enjoy playing in this arena. The fans are one of the main reasons why we want to continue coming back, even though we were sick last week."
Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong faced health issues during the Malaysia Open two weeks ago and made the decision to skip the India Open for recovery. "We are still recovering," Huang Ya Qiong revealed after clinching their first championship of the season. "We might be at around 80%, but we gave our all to win."
Setting records at the tournament is nothing new for Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong. They previously won four Indonesia Masters titles, equaling the achievements of local legends Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo. As the world number one pair from China, they became the first mixed doubles duo to claim three consecutive Indonesia Masters titles in 2020.
Notably, Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong are the only players to have won all their Indonesia Masters titles as a pair. In contrast, Gideon and Sukamuljo had one victory with different partners before dominating the tournament together from 2019-2020.
The triumph of Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong at the Indonesia Masters further solidifies their status as one of the most successful mixed doubles partnerships in badminton history. Their exceptional performances and record-breaking achievements continue to captivate fans worldwide, who eagerly anticipate their future endeavors on the badminton court.
