Former world number 1 badminton player, Ratchanok Intanon, is gearing up to showcase her best version at the Uber Cup 2024. As Thailand faces challenges in maintaining recent form, especially with their key player recovering from a foot injury, Intanon sees the Uber Cup as a crucial milestone in her ongoing journey to reignite her competitive spirit.

"I felt really awful after losing three tournaments in the early rounds," Intanon said, referring to her disappointing performances at the French Open, All England, and Swiss Open. "I wanted to give up. I questioned why things always went this way, something I had never faced before. But then I thought, just give my all and continue doing what I love, but not take it too seriously. So I believe I will do better if I don't overthink."

Despite not being at full physical capacity, Intanon emphasizes giving her best even at 80%. With her comeback, she must restrain herself and sees this as a crucial period to regain her form. "The motivation is there. I want to come back, but losing a match shakes my confidence. However, the goal remains the same. I can't say I will be like Marin or Sindhu - when they return, they have greater motivation. But for me, sometimes... I just have to try my best and not compare myself to others. I can only compare my current status to yesterday."

While Thailand remains relatively strong in the singles events with players like Supanida Katethong, Pornpawee Chochuwong, and Busanan Ongbamrungphan, they faced a setback in the doubles match due to Benyapa Aimsaard's absence. Intanon acknowledges that this will pose a challenge for the team, stating, "Our team is not very strong. Singles are okay, but doubles are problematic as we lost a pair to injury. So we need to gain points from the singles events. In doubles, it's 50-50. Whoever I face, I will be the leader, so I can learn and handle pressure every day."

Looking ahead, the Olympics are a crucial milestone for Intanon, but she refuses to set a time limit. "Sometimes I feel stable. I don't want to have too many expectations, as if I do, I always lose. So I must find my balance. I will continue to find my weaknesses. I will keep fighting. I don't know how long… but I will count each year. I will give my all in every match, and perhaps I will have the opportunity to participate in the next Olympic Games. Maybe. If my condition remains good."

As Ratchanok Intanon prepares to shine at the Uber Cup 2024, her journey to reclaim her spot among badminton's elite is marked with challenges, resilience, and unwavering determination. With her eyes set on the Olympics and a mindset focused on self-improvement, Intanon continues to strive for excellence both on and off the court.
